Destiny of War
Come, my
Friend, let me take you back into the mists of time. Back to the dawning of the
world and it was new.
Once, long ago, there were these two Gods, Kinpin and Hammyburger by name, and they decided to create a world. First thing they formed was the earth and the oceans, mountains and forests, and all the creatures within. They were pleases with their creation, and watched it bloom and grow. They delighted in the lush beauty and pristine conditions. Everything perfectly balanced and in its place. But, as with all young Gods with eternity on their hands, they eventually grew bored. Then they struck upon the idea to create thinking, intelligent creatures, instead of the mindless beasts of the wood, dale, and seas.
The first race they created was the Elves. Beautiful and ethreal, Kinpin and Hammyburger gave them magic, and charged them with careing for the young world. The Elves agreed gladly, but as the centuries turned to millenia, the Elves started waring amongst themselves. Finally, the two Gods stepped in, and separated the Elves into two factions, the High Elves and the Dark Elves. They stripped both races of all their magic, save two. To the High Elves they left the abilities to heal themselves in battle, and to gain extra life. To the Dark Elves they left the abilities to reflect damage from an attacker back to them, and an uncanny knack for evasion. Unfortunately, the two races really took to warring in earnest now, each blaming the other for their fall from grace. The Gods turned away in disgust that the two races hadn't learned anything.
Eventually, they decided to try again. Humans were the next race to join the world. The two Gods made them a little less beautiful and shorter lived than the Elves. Full of curiosity and the ability to adapt, the Humans soon spread out and made themselves at home. Kinpin and Hammyburger were pleased, and left their latest creation to thrive. Sadly, in a much shorter time than it took the Elves, Humans were soon squabbling with each other. Some only cared for a rare, precious yellow metal, others for glittery gems, and metals that could make armour and weapons, and others just wanted to take what others had, instead of working for it.
Again the Gods stepped in. This time they separated the Humans into three races: those that they left Humans, the Dwarves, and the Orcs. Then they gave each specialized magics. To the Humans they gave skills to gain gold, withstand fatal attacks, and cause critical damage. The Dwarves gained the skills to block damage from an atacker, armour was easier for them to don, and the skill to find twice the amount of gems as any other race. The Orcs were given the skills to attack better, ease with the weilding of any weapon, and a knack to steal gold from a victim while attacking. This did not deter these races from warring anymore then it did the Elves, and again the Gods walked away in disgust.
Kinpin and Hammyburger sat back and watched their warring races over the millenias. As time flowed, they became ammused with how far an individual would go to acheive their goals. Soon they were betting between themselves on particular mortals or even whole races that would win in a battle. They were amazed and astonished when a sixth race sprang into existance from the wars, a race of Undead. Finally, the Gods struck upon an idea. They returned to their world, and gathered the races around. First, they bestowed upon the Undead their own magics. They would have a chance to use little or no energy when they attacked, and gain more from their experiences. Over time, they'd also pay less for healing, but that wasn't a God granted gift. That was the Healers just wanting to be done with them quickly.
Next Kinpin and Hammyburger weakened the magics of all races. They told all that they would start out weak, but that the best of Opals would help their magics grow stronger. Then they told the races that from here on out here would no longer be racial boundaries. It would be every individual, or group of like minded people, for themselves. Over the eons they have warred, now it was the time for their destiny... the Destiny of War!
Now, not too long in the distant past, the Gods, Kinpin and Hammyburger have lifted some special few of the races to Godhood and Demigodhood... But those are tales for a different time.
