Chillsword, the First Chief
Was born on land, not long after the tribe had settled in one place. He learned how to hunt and was very skilled at it. Then Human's came and started attacking the tribe. Within a Turning of the Seasons. The Chief-at-the-time ordered all the Tree-Shapers there were to build boats. Several remembered the voyages from before, but many did not. Most were adverse to the thought of running away, having grown up there and feeling they should defend what was theirs. They were over ruled and the tribe set sail once more.
After three centuries of hopping from one piece of land to another, Chillsword grew fed up with it. When once again it was decided to leave and travel on, Chillsword refused to go. Much to his surprise, there were many others who agreed with him and stayed. Thus Seaside Holt was formed.
Chillsword and Dovewhisper Recognized. Though they were complete opposites, but they managed to make Lifemating work. They only had one tadpole, Fog, who later was known as Smoke.
Chillsword eventually died from a hunting accident.
Smoke, the Second Chief
A quiet cub born to two hunters, there were many times he didn't see eye to eye with his parents. He never excelled as a hunter, and managed to avoid it all together after the death of his parents due to hunting. He didn't see anything wrong with the fish they caught and the plants that they grew as staples of their diet. Why go risk everything to kill something that could just as easily kill you.
The one thing that made Smoke such a respected Chief was his deep thinking. He never came to a decision hastily. He would examine something from both angles, and a couple more for good measure. He'd think through the pros and cons, then make his decision, and quietly and eloquently state it in such a way that the elves couldn't refute it. He was like his name when it came to others trying to argue.
Smoke and Berrydawn complemented each other well, and were Lovemates. They had one child out of Recognition, Raven, later to be known as Ebon.
Berrydawn was the first to Recognize out of their relationship. She Recognized Earthchisle, a Rock-Shaper and bore a daughter, Leaf, later to be known as Ash, and a Tree-Shaper.
Then just before Leaf was born Smoke Recognized Mossjeweler. They also had a daughter named Pearl. She became a Jeweler, and a good one.
The Recognitions broke the couples' hearts, but they still managed to stay together. Until they both disappeared trying to find out just how big the land was that the tribe lived.
Ebon, The Third Chief
During Ebon's time as Chief it was quiet, and the tribe prospered well. There really wasn't anything that needed his attention as Chief, except maybe the occasional bicker. More often then not though, he'd rarely be found. He preferred to be by himself more, then trying to lead the tribe.
When the sickness came and wiped out many, Ebon had not Recognized, nor had any tadpoles out of Recognition.
Pearl, The Fourth Chief
Born of Recognition between Smoke and Mossjeweler. She was a creative tadpole. She'd try to make all kinds of things out of all kinds of stuff. Surprisingly enough, much of it was rather pretty. As she grew, she turned that creativeness into jewelry-making. Quite content with that position in the tribe, she was far from ready to take over as Cheiftess to the tribe when her half brother Ebon died with no issue.
Feeling unworthy of such, she tried desperately to hand the Cheiftainship over to someone else. No one would take it though, she was stuck with it much to her sorrow.
Though Swirlglade and Ash had Recognized, Pearl turned to her dearest friend for comfort and support. He'd long loved the elfess and was delighted to be there for her. Eventually, they became Lovemates. Down the road they even have a tadpole, Sprout, later to be known as Softbrush.
There were many feasts as well as famines in Pearl's time, but all in all the tribe prospered well. She was killed when a marauding pack of Spotted Cats invaded the Holt.
Softbrush, the Fifth Chief
Born out of Recognition, Softbrush always did feel odd, especially when she was discovered to have Tree-Shaping abilities. She reveled in the ability though. She loved helping her tutors Ash and Thyme with the Farmers and Gathers, to make sure there was enough seeds, nuts and fruits to get through the lean times, even if just barely.
She knew she'd be Chieftess with her mother's passing, but she never really expected it to happen, until it did. She rose to the occasion and led the tribe well.
Becoming Lovemate to Mildstream, the two found they had magic in common and build a sound relationship from there. Even though each Recognized others, they didn't fight the Recognition and always came back to each other.
Recognizing Siege twice, they had Tumble, later to be known as Tumblestone, and Water, later to be known as Watertumble.
Softbrush later died from migrating Sharp Teeth that attacked while many were out having a lazy day in the water.
Tumblestone, The Sixth Chief
Tumblestone, an active tadpole and always in some sort of scrape or another. It got worse when his brother Watertumble was born and he managed to convince him to go along with many of his misadventures.
But all that changed with the death of his mother and his becoming the Chief of the tribe. Almost instantly, he became the exact opposite. Once, when asked about the abrupt change, he replied with a shrug, "I knew someday I'd have to be Chief. Figured I'd have all the fun I could before that happened."
Before he became Chief, he'd Recognized and Lifemated with Rainbow. They had a daughter named Autumn.
Trying to find better fishing grounds, Tumblestone along with his brother Watertumble, drown when a freak storm came and tore their craft apart.
Autumn, The Seventh Chief
From an early age, Autumn showed signs of mental instability. Most times it was overlooked, sometimes not, but the elves knew she'd be the next for the Chief's line.
Autumn Recognized Saplingwild, another that there were questions and looks on whether he was all that stable either.
They had a daughter called Hickory. Unfortunately, Hickory as sickly from the start, and died within her first year. Her death caused Autumn to finish unhinging, and she tore off into the forest with her dead tadpole, refusing to give the body up. She eventually lost her pursuers and was never heard from again.
Silt, The Eighth Chief
Silt was another who never expected the Chieftainship to come her way. But she handled it much better then Pearl ever did. She took it all in stride and like one born for it.
The only excitement in Silt's long leadership was the arrival of a boat full of elves. Lost and nearly dead from lack of supplies, never the less the tribe welcomes them and helps them back to full health. They become a part of the tribe.
Silt and Flashdazzle Recognize twice, giving them Reef and Arrow, later known as Archer.
When a monsoon comes and takes a good many of the tribe, Silt is among the missing.
Reef, The Ninth Chief
Reef was one to always find trouble as a tadpole. When his little brother Arrow came along, he’d drag him into all kinds of mischief as well. Though the younger tadpole knew better, he could never resist his older brother.
Reef never wanted to be Chief. He thought it would keep him from having fun. He wasn’t too far off. During his Leadership, the tribe had many difficult times. From famine, to the occasional elf taken by a many teeth, to the occasional lost hunter or member from rogue spotted cats.
Reef Recognizes Highquarrel. Their Lifemating was difficult at the least, almost impossible at the most. They have a daughter they named Shiny, who later changes her name to Brightcloud.
Reef, his brother Archer, and Battlemoth go hunting. Battlemoth is the only one to return, badly hurt and near death. Her determination to tell the tribe that the Chief and his brother are gone was the only thing to keep her alive to return.
Brightcloud, The Tenth Chief
Brightcloud was a quiet cub who liked shiny objects as a tadpole. Later she grew into a quiet adult.
Clamtide Recognized her and she was revolted. He was her complete opposite. She tried to fight it, sickening in the process. Finally her father intervened and convinced her that those opposites were the best of both of them and would make a tadpole stronger then them both for it. The tadpole born was a male they named Float, later changing his name to Sheerfloat as he learns of his Water-Shaping abilities.
The most notable thing to happen during her Chieftainship was four hands of days walk from the Holt, hunters found a small tribe of Elves. It was the tribe that the castaways, in her grandmother’s time had arrived at the Holt, belonged to. The new tribe was barely surviving and had no tadpoles. They were invited to come live at Seaside Holt, bring fresh blood and Recognitions.
While fishing Brightcloud and two hands of elves were lost as a storm sprung up.
Sheerfloat, The Eleventh Chief
Like his mother, he was a quiet tadpole. He would constantly be found near the water’s edge. Even as a tadpole he always claimed he could hear the water calling him. Later as he grew older it was found that he had Water-Shaping abilities.
Sheerfloat Recognizes Shycub. They were perfect for each other. They birth a girl they named Veil, later to be known as Moonveil.
Sheerfloat and a hand and two elves go out hunting and are never heard from again.
Moonveil, The Twelfth Chief
Moonveil was always an adventurous tadpole. Disappearing into the forest nearby, swimming or boating farther then others had gone. She was so different from her quiet parents, they were constantly at a loss as to whether she’d even make it to adulthood.
She does make it and even takes over as Chief at her father’s disappearance. But her Cheiftainship only lasts 31 turns. One night her wanderlust gets the better of her and she disappears, never to be seen or heard from again. She never had a tadpole in or out of Recognition.
Rushtide, The Thirteenth Chief
As a tadpole Rush was always in a hurry to get somewhere. Later she changes her name to Rushtide.
Though she is descended from Archer, she never expected to become Chief. In fact, she’d fought the tribe Elders who insisted she do so at Moonveil’s disappearance. But since there were no others with the Blood of Chiefs, she really had no choice. A descendant from Chillsword had always Lead the tribe.
She and Mossdiver become Lovemates. It’s not until after she becomes Chief that they finally recognize and have a tadpole. They name him Jade for the colour of his eyes.
Rushtide, Mossdiver, Highquarrel, Dancecat, and Crystalpool are killed when a pride of spotted cats attack the Holt out of hunger and looking for east prey.
Jade, The Fourteenth and Current Chief
Jade was an unremarkable tadpole growing up. He learned many different skills, but never really settled on one he liked best, so he is more of a jack-of-all.
He has yet to take a Lovemate or Recognize.
