Brie Hatteclyff
Brie Hatteclyff was born to Lyle and Harriett
Hatteclyff on 5th May 1868 and is an only child. She stands about five foot
five and weighs no more than one hundred twenty-five pound if she’s lucky and
soaking wet. And she looks to be about 20 years of age. She gets her red hair
and emerald green eyes from her Irish father, as well as her temper. From her
mother came her figure and grace of movement, as well as her learned education.
Brie is usually very easy going and quick to smile and laugh, but she will only tolerate so much before that Irish temper flares and she give whoever ticks her off a sever tongue lashing. She is both thoughtful and articulate, even when mad.
About nine months back, her parents were killed in a carriage accident, leaving her alone except for a great grandmother that still hobbles about Hatteclyff Manor. Recently, her cousin Kyan Dryden has moved in with her upon his return from military service elsewhere and finding his family gone. She hasn’t seen him since they were small children and is astonished at the handsome, though worn man who now lives with her. That aside, she is hoping that Kyan can help her keep Hatteclyff Manor as she is struggling being a woman in a man’s world.

Hatteclyff Manor is a country estate just
outside of London.
The primary business of the Manor is horse breeding, mainly racing horses, and
two thirds of the estate is delegated for such purposes. The other third is
reserved for orchards and more a more recent undertaking of strawberries and
raspberries by Master Hatteclyff before his accident. There are a variety of
fruit trees within the orchard, apples, apricots, and cherries in various
strains. Business is fairly good, after all everyone needs fruit as part of
their meals and everyone needs horses in some manner or form, not to mention,
everyone loves a good horse race.
With the death of Master Hatteclyff, and him
leaving no male heirs, or his daughter married off at the very least, the
business has hit a bit of a snag. Brie Hatteclyff is female, and though
intelligent and educated, it is not a woman’s place to run a business, and she
has met much opposition in the business world because of this attitude. It
frustrates her to no end. With the arrival of her cousin, Kyan Dryden, perhaps
things will get back to normal, as he can be the male needed to deal in the
business world while she runs everything behind him.
Brie’s father was a good friend of Lord William
Winterstone, since the Lord preferred to buy his horses from Lyle Hatteclyff,
and the two were known to spend long hours discussing horse lineage and races
when the Lord was in town. They’d even corresponded frequently when the Lord
was out of town and country. Brie knew her father had great respect for Lord
Winterstone, so when he sent the Manor an invitation for an event at the
Winterstone residence, she could hardly refuse. She insisted on Kyan being her
escort, after all the men wouldn’t want to talk to her about business, and Kyan
could step up and take her place in such happenings while she regulated herself
to the boredom of woman’s talks.
